When Cambodia came under France colonial in 1863, it’s also the time that Phnom Penh officially became Cambodia’s capital. The first modern stone structure to be built in Phnom Penh was the Royal Palace. Thereafter, many other buildings and villas were constructed with French style. Started from around Wat Phnom area and near by the Royal Palace and river side area. Many of colonial buildings and French villa are remained till today.
