History of Cambodia Vipassana Dhura Buddhist Center

Cambodia Vipassana Dhura Buddhist Center was first known as Meditation Center created in 1996 and located in Wat Nondamuni in Mean Chey district, Phnom Penh. The Meditation Center was created in the purpose to provide more knowledge about Dhuras in Buddhism to Cambodian Buddhists, especially Vipassana Dhura (insight meditation). Under the decision of The Cabinet of His Royal Highness Supreme Patriarch and the agreement from Ministry of Cultures and Religions, Vipassana Center of Cambodia have been created officially on Aug 26 1996 and has Master Venerable Som Bunthoeun as president.

Later on the Meditation Center was moved to its new greater location at the west of Oudong mount, Kandal province, about 40 km from Phnom Penh. And it has got a new name as Cambodia Vipassana Dhura Buddhist Center.

Main mission of Cambodia Vipassana Dhura Buddhist Center

1. Establish school of Vipassana to guide Cambodian Buddhists doing good in their life, avoid doing evils, purify the mind toward the way of Buddha, so that one would become calm which would contribute to the peace of the society.
2. Have social ethics and Dhamma culture restored through small classes both inside and outside the center, also provide places for both local and foreign visitors who wish to practice meditation.

Cambodia Vipassana Dhura Buddhist Center has many buildings in a large area surrounded by walls at the foot of Oudong Mountain. There are buildings dedicated to each stage of life of Buddha such as Birth, Attained Enlightenment, The First Sermon, and Parinivanna.
The over view of the center is very beautiful with trees and flowers which always delight visitors. It is a very ideals place for meditation with natural environment. See the pictures below for better description about the center.
